2020 Rattlesnake Island Passage Fun Race, Monday August 10th!
Rattlesnake Island Passage can be almost anything based on the wind direction but it is not racing around the ‘cans’. At minimum, it is a two-fold ‘rite of passage’. For those participating in the Summerland Yacht Club Giant’s Head Regatta (August 8th & 9th) to be followed by the Kelowna Yacht Club Commodores’ Cup Regatta (August 15th & 16th) it allows the participants to stretch their wings on a long distance run to relocate their boats for the following weekend.
For leisure sailors, it offers the opportunity to attempt to sail between the Island and the eastern shoreline (downwind only permitted) in the company of other sailboats. This race is for all sailboat owners, friends and family to come out and have fun!
For those ‘newer to’ or ‘wanting to try’ their skills against others the Passage removes the intimidation of tight corners (mark roundings). It is meant to be a fun day on the water, followed by an ‘invasion’ of the West Kelowna Yacht Club to enjoy ‘home-style’ hospitality, a burger & beverage, the chance to trade yarns and still get home by the end of day. For those wanting to join only for an Island Passage to West Kelowna Yacht Club, we’ll meet you at the island, just let us know. Come one, come all
